[edit] Undo September merge with abbreviated name
Can someone else attempt again to move/rfc this category to match the unabbreviated name used everywhere else.
See below for justification.
The justification of the December 5 "no consensus" was the November 2 "no consensus".
The justification of the November 2 "no consensus" was "This is a discussion that needs to resolve (or fail to resolve) on the article talk page."
(see the more recent discussion on the talk page at: Talk:War_on_Terrorism#War_on_Terrorism_vs._.28informal.29_.22War_on_Terror.22 )
The justification of the October 3 Merge of Category:War on Terrorism into Category:War on Terror was the September PAGE MOVE discussion at Talk:War_on_Terror#Title.
The justification for the September PAGE MOVE discussion was WP:COMMONNAME based primarily on Google results.
However:
- When google is searched in accordance with Wikipedia standards, the opposite is found:
-
- "War on Terrorism" -wikipedia :: 6,870,000
- "War on Terror" -wikipedia :: 1,040,000
Also:
- Naming_conventions#Prefer_spelled-out_phrases_to_abbreviations.
- "On Wikipedia, neutrality trumps popularity". "Terror" abbreviation is more emotive, less precise, and less official.
There was a discussion with general consensus to keep the unabbreviated article name, a discussion which included the editor responsible for the September article MOVE. See more discussion at: Talk:War_on_Terrorism#War_on_Terrorism_vs._.28informal.29_.22War_on_Terror.22
