  • Mishwal Wappo Tribe - the Wappo inhabited a mountainous territory with the northernmost village, Tekenantsonoma.
At white contact the Wappo had been living in the above described territory for at least 4500 years.
Originally there were four bands of Wappo, the Mishewal, Mutistul, Meyahk'mah and a small offshoot of the Mishewal called the Lilik (pronounced Leeleek).
The Mishewal-Wappo Tribe of today are the descendants of the Yukian speaking Meyahk'mah, Mutistul and Mishewal who, by 1880 were all living in the old Wappo village of Unutsawaholmanoma and other nearby villages in Alexander Valley, later moving to the Alexander Valley Reservation when it was created in 1909-1910.
The Wappo roll contains the names of more than five hundred individuals descended from those families who left Napa Valley, Knight's Valley, Pope Valley and moved to the Wappo Rancheria in Alexander Valley, near Healdsburg, California.
