As of 2001 India census[1], Wani had a population of 52,814. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Wani has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 68%. In Wani, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age. Wani town having n no's of minerals like coal, limestone, dolomite stone and cement stone. With blessing of minerals Wani having a large belt of agricultural products like cotton & soya bean. According to information Wani is a district place in British Raj. After that, British shift their headquarters to Yavatmal since Yavatmal is situated in hilly region. Wani give lots of freedom fighter (like Bapuji Ane) for the independence of India and also famous literary persons like Ram Shevalkar.

Wani is situated eastern Side of Yavatmal District about 107 km from Yavatmal i.e on Yavatmal-Chandrapur Road, nearly 50 km from Chandrapur and 120 km from Nagpur. Wani is well on the river side of Nirguda which is flowing from western side of Wani. Around the Wani City there are a number of coal mines which is useful earning source for the people of Wani.

In Wani, there is largest Rangnath Swami's statue with sleeping posture in India. Every year between March and April (i.e just after Holy), Big fair (Jatra) has been organized dedicated to Lord Ranganath Swami. Status symbol of this fair is "Bail Bazar". In which lots of people from each of districts of Maharatra is coming for buying or selling their bulls .Also bull race has been arranged in this fair. Basically this time is like a fastival time for the Wanikars.

In Wani, there is SaiBaba's temple which is running by Sai Samiti Wani. It is also status symbol of Wani. Located on Chandrapur-Yavatmal Road. This temple is beautifully constructed and neatly managed. Every year at Gurupornima big Shobha-Yatra is arranged.

Near this temple Jai-tai temple is there, which also very popular in the region. There is Big Festival in Nivratra.

In Wani, there is Lokmanya Tilak Mahavidyalya (under Shikshan Prasaran Mahavidyalya Samiti, Wani), in which from 12th to BSC, B.A, Bcom, M.A BPharm i.e from Jr.college to Sr. College Education with quality is provided. Also there is S.P.M (Shikshan Prasarak Mandal) Jr. College and High School which is also famous for their quality education. Lots of students from the nearby region are coming here to take education from this institution. Pride about this institution is it makes the base for the engineers, doctors, scientists, lectures who is belongs to Wani and nowadays the numbers of professionals are increasing.
