[edit] History
Founded in 1924, Wampanoag was advertised as an alternative to the already existing Country Clubs in and around West Hartford, CT. The Clubhouse was re-built in 1975, and has been renovated several times since then. The Golf Course offers a view of the nearby Talcott Mountain
[edit] Golf Course
The premier eight-teen holes of golf was designed by the famous Donald Ross (golfer). Donald Ross has also designed the very famous golf course for the Oakley Country Club in Massachusetts. Donald Ross was also a professional golfer, who played in the British Open, and the U.S. Open. The Club has traditionally been a golfer's club with a high percentage of low handicap players and a very active golfing membership. Wampanoag has hosted more than 20 major championships and is still a preferred site for championship tournaments. Wampanoag hosted the 2005 Women’s State Open Champion and Wampanoag's own Liz Janangelo successfully defended her title. Each hole presents a different problem at Wampanoag.[citation needed]
[edit] Dining and Facilities
Wampanoag Country Club features a formal five star dining room, a pub, three bars, patio dining, and two snack bars; one on the course, and the other by the pool. The pool is open from memorial day to labor day. The pool has both Men and Woman locker rooms, and offers cabana service.
Wampanoag has a Pro Shop, that that stocks golf equipment along with a large stock of golf apparel such as Wampanoag collared shirts. [1]
