Walter Thomas Monnington

Sir Walter Thomas Monnington (October 2, 1902, London—1976) was an English painter. From 1918 to 1923, he studied at the Slade School of Art and then became the Royal Academy’s Rome Scholar for the next three years. Between 1931 and 1939, Monnington taught drawing in the Royal Academy schools.
In 1932 Monnington was chosen by the Naval Gunnery School to portrait the Admiral of the Fleet John Jellicoe, 1st Earl Jellicoe. However, Monnington's finished work was returned to him following objections from Lady Jellicoe, who took exception to the portrayal of her husband.
