Walter Harper

Walter Harper was the first person to reach the summit of Mount McKinley/Denali, the highest mountain in North America. Harper, an Alaska Native, was part of the mountaineering team of Hudson Stuck. He reached the summit on Saturday, 7 June 1913, followed by the remaining members of the team, Stuck, Harry Karstens and Robert Tatum.
Harper Glacier, adjacent to Karstens' Ridge, is named after him.
The youngest of eight children, Walter Harper was the son of Jennie Harper, an Athabascan Indian from the Koyukuk region, and Arthur Harper, an Irishman from Belfast.
