Walkabout (pub chain)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Walkabout is a chain of Australian themed bars operating in the UK. The brand is owned by Regent Inns, which also controls the Bar Risa/Jongleurs chain. There are approximately 50 Walkabout venues in the UK, comprising of forty eight pubs, three hotels, one venue for backpackers and a nightclub. In keeping with the theme, many of the barstaff employed at Walkabouts are Australian. The food menu offers also Australian themed food such as Kangaroo Burgers and steaks, as well as Springbok meat from South Africa.
[edit] Dual branded nightclubs
Like the Bar Risa/Jongleurs chain, most Walkabouts offer a dual branded nightclub/late licence night with another nightclub operating in the same building, for example The Limelight in Shaftesbury Avenue. The two parts can be operated as separate entities or together, with Walkabout playing cheesy music or hosting live bands and the other club playing harder dance music. The most recent of these is the newly opened Walkabout in Leicester which opened in the old Bar Risa site.
Walkabouts which are twinned with a Jongleurs Comedy Club include Edinburgh, Leicester, Watford and Glasgow; a new Jongleurs is expected to open above the Manchester Walkabout sometime in 2007.
