This is a photograph showing a rock art painting of a sailing ship, on the side of Walga Rock, Western Australia. There has been a great deal of speculation about this painting, especially considering it is located 325 kilometres from the coast. It has been argued, for example, that it was drawn by survivors of the Batavia (ship) or Zuytdorp; or that it represents a contact painting by indigenous Australians who saw a ship. |
