[edit] Image text
(with some additional comments)
[edit] Fission trigger
- Chemical explosive
- Beryllium (neutron reflector and tamper)
- Plutonium 239
- Deuterium-tritium (DT) gas (booster)
[edit] Fusion devise
- Uranium-238 or 235
- Lithium deuteride (fusion fuel)
- Uranium-235 (thermonuclear sparkplug)
[edit] (Other components)
[edit] (Dimensions)
- MIRV length: 5.7 feet
- MIRV base diameter: 1.8 feet
- Explosive power: 300,000 tons of TNT
[edit] Explosive process:
The comression of plutonium with a chemical explosive (above, left) starts a fission explosion that, is boosted by the fusion of DT gas. X-rays then compress the second component, causing a larger fission/fusion.
