From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
W.L. Mantis currently resides in New Jersey suburbia. One of her more distinctive traits is that ‘While politicians speak in soundbites, [she] think[s] in mindbites.’ Interrupting the rather incoherent streams of thought which fire off simultaneously in her mind are trapped pieces of lucidity too vivid to pass away into the fog. Her interests orbit around the fields of philosophy (particularly theology, soteriology, eschatology, ethics, and historical philosophy), taxonomy, writing, thinking, and science (particularly physics, biology, astronomy, and medicine). She is also interested in psychology, particularly psychological conditions such as hysteria, multiple personality disorder (MPD), and autism. For recreation, she participates in the arts (singing, poetry, visual art), debate (which she claims ‘helps to empty [her] nerves,’), and Rubik’s cube solving (she is capable of solving the 3 x 3 cube, but finds it irritating when people insist upon her doing it ‘right now’ and ‘before their very eyes’).
[edit] Religion
She is a convert to Christianity, though she comes from the Jewish ethnicity. All things having to do with religion fascinate her, whether that religion is in line with the mainline protestant doctrine or not. Favorite religious scholars (apart from the obvious) include Erasmus, St Thomas Aquinas, St Augustine, St Thomas More, C.S. Lewis, Billy Graham, Martin E. Marty, the Dalai Lama, Mohandas Gandhi, Sri Aurobindo, Elie Wiesel, and Rashi. She is mildly irked by people who think that she should be a member of ‘Religion X’ (most frequently, Unitarian Universalism) instead of simply being a LIBERAL CHRISTIAN. She has a conception of Truth, and although she respects the views of others, she does not like to be evangelized at any more than others do.
Annoyances and pet peeves include, but are not limited to, Vogons, feminazis, fundamentalists and extremists, people with an IQ below 100, angst, violation of the Third Commandment (‘Thou shalt not use the Lord’s name in vain’), expensive white dresses used for baptisms (male and female!), and anyone who is generally intolerant or obnoxious.
[edit] Miscellany
W.L. Mantis is right-handed. She does not believe that America is a Christian nation; the founding fathers were largely deists, not evangelical Christians; she does not think that it is funny when people say ‘let there be light’ whenever a light switch is flipped, she is allergic to alcohol, she wakes up at 5:15 every morning, she has read the entirety of the Bible, the Koran, and the Tao Te Ching. Favorite foods include mushrooms and asparagus, the former because she is of Russian descent, and Russian families typically teach their children to love mushrooms from an early age. She enjoys reading nonfiction, but will endure fiction if forced. She is mildly irked by people who will not comprehend the difference between the Nicene Creed and the Apostles' Creed.
