[edit] Cvent

Cvent is a provider of online software for event management, web surveys and event marketing for the multi-billion dollar meetings industry, which ranked as the 29th largest contributor to the U.S. Gross National Product in 2004.[1] In addition to generating $122.31 billion in total direct spending, meeting planning is ranked second to executive management in importance by over 95 percent of chief staff executives of trade and professional associations and foundations.[2]

Cvent software allows event and meeting planners and marketers to organize, manage and market their events, as well as to gather and track information from stakeholders. Cvent was the first online registration software provider to build and market audience profiling and one-to-one marketing strategies.[3] In 2005, the Washington Business Journal ranked Cvent the largest event planning company in the Washington, D.C., metro area. [4]

[edit] History

Cvent was founded in 1999 by Reggie Aggarwal.[5] Formerly a corporate lawyer at Shaw Pittman law firm, Aggarwal started Cvent in order to provide a solution for companies and associations that needed to better manage event invitations and tracking of member interest.[6]

Cvent began with six employees in a small office in the Watergate complex in Washington, D.C. Cvent officially launched June 1, 2000, at Springtime in the Park, the Washington Society of Association Executives’ annual tradeshow.[7]

One year following its initial product launch, Cvent had over 1,300 users from companies such as KPMG and JP Morgan.[8]

In September 2000, the company moved its headquarters to Arlington, Virginia, and subsequently relocated to its current headquarters in McLean, Virginia, in 2006.[9]

At the end of 2007, over 10,000 event and marketing professionals used Cvent software to plan over 100,000 events each year.[10][11]

[edit] Current Status

Cvent has seen 40 percent to 60 percent annual growth in traffic to its applications in recent years. The company has been profitable for 20 consecutive quarters and increased sales by 55 percent year-ending 2007.

The company currently has over 350 employees worldwide, with operations in Chicago, Los Angeles, Orlando and New Delhi, India, in addition to its headquarters in McLean, Virginia.
