Vivian R. Thompson (born December 10, 1953)is President and CEO of Vivian Thompson Associates, Inc. d/b/a THE EVENT Production Company, a full-service event management organization that is dedicated to helping private and special interest groups, corporations, and non-profit organizations reach their objectives through innovative, memorable, and one-of-a-kind events. Ms. Thompson and her company are known for their strategic planning skills, creativity and uncompromising attention to detail, delivering flawlessly executed special events.
THE EVENT Production Company develops and implements annual events to benefit non-profit organizations, which, to date; have grossed more than $60 million. For more than 20 years, Vivian has designed and managed special events to raise money for non-profits, gain client visibility, and highlight award presentations. In addition to concept and theme development, her work has included site selection, budget and timeline planning and management, attracting corporate sponsorships, securing and managing sports, entertainment and celebrity participation, contract negotiations and management, logistical management, development of event reports, obtaining in-kind and pro-bono services, and invitation list development.
Vivian also serves as Executive Director and Project Manager to non-profit and corporate organizations. Her role in this capacity includes implementing Action Agenda’s, whose primary components include professional and organizational development, legislative advocacy, marketing to promote community development, and community problem-solving through the development of annual work plans and priorities. She assists non-profit and corporate organizations in the resolution of crises, and management of resources. Vivian has coordinated activities for executive seminars, monthly meetings and special events. She provides organizational oversight, which includes the solicitation of proposals, implementation of services, and administration and distribution of funding. Vivian effectively works with high-profile community leaders that serve on the Board of Directors and Committees associated with the organizations.
During her career, Vivian has helped to create and/or manage and produce charitable fundraising events, which include "Fight Night" (for 11 years) with a $2 million budget; "School Night" with a $3 million budget; "The BasketBall", The Children’s Charities Foundation Gala event (for 13 years) with a $1.5 million budget and numerous other sporting and gala type events. She has worked on a magnitude of multifaceted events from extreme sport sporting events: the XFL, the Gravity Games … both the summer games in Providence, Rhode Island and winter games in Mammoth, California … to celebrations: like Times Square New Year’s Eve Celebration and the DNC’s Salute to the President … to major concert tours and shows: featuring Josh Groban, Hall and Oates, The Beach Boys, Kathy Sledge, Kool & The Gang, The Four Tops, K.C. and the Sunshine Band, Jim Belushi and the Sacred Hearts Band, James Brown, Whitney Houston, Neil Diamond, Michael Bolton, Lenny Kravitz, Sinbad, and/or Robin Williams (to name just a few).
From 1996 to the present, she serves as the Executive Director of The Children’s Charities Foundation. She currently serves as the Treasurer and Executive Director of The Bruce Edwards ALS Research Foundation, Inc. From 1989 to 1999, Vivian served as the Executive Director of Fight For Children. From 1989 to 1999, she served as the President of the Alexandria Boxing Club. From 1995 to 1998, she served as a Member of the Board of Directors of the DC Boxing Hall of Fame and in 1997 served as its Publicity Chair. She continues to serve as an independent Events Manager for a magnitude of other non-profit and corporate clients. Additionally, Vivian participated in Democratic politics at the local, state and national levels for more than 17 years. During 1986 and 1987, Vivian worked for political operatives who raised funds for an extensive list of Democratic candidates including but not limited to the Gary Hart for President Campaign and the John Breaux for Congress campaigns.
Her Awards and Recognitions include the 1994 William Heschberger - Civic Award; the 1994 DC Boxing Commission Award of Gratitude - Civic Award; the 1993 Alexandria Sportsman’s Club - Civic Award. She is a Guest Lecturer before community organizations and charitable entities. Vivian is a Licensed Boxing Promoter in both the Commonwealth of Virginia and the District of Columbia. She is a Notary Public in the State of Maryland and is a licensed Real Estate Salesperson in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She currently serves as a member of the Citizen’s Review Board for Children.
Vivian Thompson and her husband, Robert T. Goldstein, founder of Maryland Sound International, an international sound touring compnay, reside in Crownsville, Maryland.
