| Image title | 021115-N-5862D-001 NAS PENSACOLA--"Virtual Reality" Navy and Marine Corps aviators receive state of the art training at the Naval Survival Training Institute aboard NAS Pensacola Fla. Hospital Corpsman Second Class Tim Sudduth, 27 from Vashowish, Wash., demonstrates the "VR" parachute trainer. Students wear the VR glasses and are suspended in a harness where they learn to control their computer-simulated parachute in various scenarios. Aviation Survival Equipmentmen First Class, Jackie Hilles, from Ekland, Penn., controls the programs via a computer, which is loading the program to the VR glasses. The inputs are received from the student by pulling on the risers that control the parachute. The VR trainer also teaches aircrew how a parachute will react in different possible malfunctions and how to control it..(Photo by PHC(NAO) Chris Desmond COMNAVCRUITCOM) |
