This article should be merged into Dirty South. Southern rap is definately the more mature article, in fact it can probably take the place of whats currently in dirty south. But I don't think the article should be about the history of rap produced out of the region of the American south, as the title would suggest. In fact the article as it stands is almost exclusively about Dirty south, a distinct subgenre of rap. People I'm sure would always be searching for it by the name Dirty South, that is how the sub genre is almost universally known. There shouldn't be an article about the history of rap in the south in general, because either they are doing rap in the dirty south style, or they are doing rap in a style similar if not identicle to whats played on the radio (in other words there is no reason to organize an article based on that type of geographical region besides the article on dirty south). In addition, we don't have articles on regions which can aruably have a local rap scene with its own distinct rap style, such as possibly the northern california scene).

You can see from the rap template at the end of Southern rap that East Coast hip hop and West Coast hip hop both have legitimate articles too, and this is all obviously a sensible and well-accepted part of an ambitious collective namespace related to rap. Note that it's linked from Wikipedia:U.S. Southern wikipedians' notice board/USSCOTW (where a collaboration was proposed on No Limit, a Southern rap music label, at that; the existence of Southern rap is taken well enough for granted), and Wikipedia:WikiProject Music genres and many germane articles.   • Comment: I disagree. The fact we're all standing around here in a circle jerk voting keep over an anonymously listed article proves what a waste of time this endeavor was and that there is definite need for the bar to be raised in order to nominate something to be listed for deletion. • Keep I could be wrong, but I believe Dirty South is a specific style of music, i.e. early Outkast, Goodie Mob and the like. Southern rap includes that as well as later Outkast, No Limit and New Orleans hip hop, Nelly and St. Louis hip hop, and maybe even Miami bass. • Rename to Southern Hip Hop, to reflect the difference between the bassheavy funkadelic music of Southern Hip Hop, and the cuss-laden raw lyrics of Dirty South. It seems to me that Southern Hip Hop is a more common name for the genre anyway. Make Southern rap into an "umbrella article" explaining the difference and the connection between the two. --Regebro 21:55, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)
