| This media was proposed for deletion as a replaceable non-free content. The result was to Keep the image, as no adequate free-licensed image exists or can be created to fulfill the limited role performed by this image at the time deletion was considered. However, this image may be replaceable by free images in other contexts, and in such cases the free image must take precedence. A discussion of this decision may exist on the image talk page. |
[edit] Summary
This is the 3dfx press release photo for the Voodoo 5 6000 (and accompanying Voodoo Volts power supply). It is believed that the use of this photograph on the Voodoo 5 6000 article constitutes fair use under U.S. law and Wikipedia guidelines because:
- It is a press photograph, intended by 3dfx for public distribution and use in articles related to the card. Thus, the interests of the copyright holder should not be impaired in any way by the use of this photo for its intended function.
- No GFDL, CC-by-SA, or PD photos of the Voodoo 5 6000 card exist, and it is unlikely that one could be obtained, since the card never saw production and the few prototypes produced are rare collectibles. Furthermore, many of these prototypes have various PCB hacks, and a prototype picture would therefore not accurately represent the intent of the designers as this photograph does.
- It is used in the context of historical discussion and critical commentary about this particular 3dfx card, which cannot adequately be done without an illustration of the card. (The need for a separate external power supply, for instance, was a specific points of comment and criticism that is illustrated here.)
