Sean Blackston is a covert counterterrorism operative for a specialized anti-terrorist unit within the United States Department of State.
Sean David Blackston was born in Mesa, Arizona, the first born son of Nicholas Blackston and the former Elizabeth Mason. His father is an Anglo-American police officer and his mother is a high school physics teacher of Navajo heritage. At 17, he graduated high school and went on to attend The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, where he majored in Criminal Justice and minored in International Relations. Sean graduated from The Citadel in the top 10 percent of his class with a commission as an Ensign in the United States Navy via NROTC.
While at The Citadel, Sean decided that he wanted to be a Navy SEAL. Soon after his commission as an Ensign, he began Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) Training, which was followed by basic parachute training at the Army Airborne School at Fort Benning. He then moved on to SEAL Qualification Training. Following his completion of SQT, Sean was placed on board SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team One where he earned his SEAL Trident and served as an assistant platoon commander. For his performance with SDVT-1, Sean earned the Navy Commendation Medal. Following that, he was assigned to SEAL Team 3 as a platoon commander. While with that SEAL Team, his actions during a combat mission earned him the Silver Star. Sean then spent a year of shore duty on a staff assignment at Special Operations Central Command, where he assisted in the operational planning of SDV missions.
After six years as a Navy officer, Sean retired from the Navy with numerous commendations and was accepted into the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Diplomatic Security. Before he could become a DS agent, Sean went through a training program that included the Criminal Investigator Training Program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, a Basic Special Agent Course at the Diplomatic Security Training Center, and courses at the Foreign Service Institute. Upon completion of his training, Sean was assigned to the Los Angeles Field Office, where he spent the next two years. He distinguished himself conducting personnel security investigations and played an essential role in a criminal investigation that resulted in the seizure of a quarter million dollars that was intended to bribe a State Department official. He was then posted to Riyadh as an assistant regional security officer.
While serving in the Secretary of State's protective detail, Sean gained notoriety amongst his colleagues when he discovered and defused an explosive device meant to kill the Secretary and a member of the Saudi royal family. Soon after that incident, Sean was personally contacted by the director of the newly-established Office of Special Investigative Assistance with an offer of employment.
As a police and intelligence liaison unit, the State Department's Office of Special Investigative Assistance represents the collective intelligence capability and full muscle of the United States government to help neutralize and prevent terrorist actions against U.S. interests on a global level. Its overt mission is to assist foreign police, military, and intelligence agencies in helping prevent terrorist attacks against Americans and American interests abroad. The OSIA's innocuous title hides the covert mission of the unit, which is to combat the international terrorist threat against America by any means necessary.
Sean accepted the offer and after just three years as a DS agent, he joined the OSIA as a "special agent." The benign title leads most to believe that he works in the field, assisting foreign governments and law enforcement agencies in their counterterrorism efforts. That, after all, is the express mission statement of the OSIA. In reality, he is a very secretive dog of war to be unleashed upon the enemies of the United States to help prevent any future terrorist attacks on America. His goal is to level the playing field with international terrorists through one simple mandate -- as long as the terrorists refuse to play by any rules, he won't either. Simply put, his job is to hunt down terrorists. Much of his work is unofficial and "off the books." This includes covert and clandestine assignments wherein he operates independent of the U.S. national security apparatus and therefore circumvents impediments like the executive order banning assassinations. As a premier counterterrorism agent, Sean Blackston has helped save the United States from devastating terrorist attacks on many occasions.
