EcoUnit is a rewards program for the environment. EcoUnit consists of eco-aware consumers who want to provide feedback to eco-conscious companies and earn rewards that help the environment.
Participants in the EcoUnit program can participate in two ways:
- 1. They earn EcoUnit credits, which are redeemable for carbon offsets. By being a regular participant you can actually earn enough EcoUnit credits to reduce your carbon footprint to zero (called "carbon neutral").
- 2. They help companies develop more eco-friendly products. EcoUnit believes that the quickest way to a greener planet is through the power of market forces - our members help companies understand the demand for eco-friendly products so that they will supply them.
[edit] EcoUnit Vision
EcoUnit's mission is to connect marketers with eco-aware consumers in order to accelerate the introduction of more sustainable products. By rewarding participating consumers with EcoUnit credits, we also enable individuals to embrace the environment as a cause. Marketers are simple: they want to sell products to consumers. But consumers are multi-dimensional, and how environmental and sustainability issues impact their buying decisions varies by person, place, and priorities. EcoUnit gives a voice to the consumer in order to help marketers develop more environmentally-friendly, more [sustainable products] and services.
[edit] Carbon Offsets
EcoUnit rewards, which are earned by EcoUnit members when they participate in online surveys, sampling programs, and other programs that help eco-conscious companies, are redeemable for carbon offsets. Carbon offsets generally refer to acts by individuals or companies that counteract ("offset") CO2 emissions. Common carbon offsets include planting trees, which effectively remove CO2 from the atmosphere; building and operating alternative energy facilities, which reduce the need for CO2-emitting energy sources like oil; and reducing common sources of CO2, such as building and operating methane capture facilities.
