[edit] History
Voices Incoporated began operations in 1995 as a novelty business in Valdosta, Georgia. However, in 2006, after dissolving their original business plan, Voices Incorporated reestablished themselves as a publishing company in Owensboro, Kentucky; the third largest city in Kentucky.
[edit] Online
Voices Incorporated made their online debut in 2007 through Yahoo!, adopting the .biz rather than the traditional .com. With collaborative voice and thematic publishing, Voices Incorporated publishes under an opened-submission format.
Unlike large anthologies and compilations from other publishers of poetry, Voices Incorporated specifically publishes smaller volumes of poetry or chapbooks to increase availability of each collection.
[edit] "i, too, sing america"
"i, too, sing america" is an ode to Langston Hughes' poem, "I, Too." During the Harlem Renaissance, Langston Hughes wrote "I, Too," in 1932. Hughes faced many difficulties in writing self-proclaimed "Negro" poetry and offered this poem as a[1] response to Walt Whitman's "I Hear America Singing"[2], prompting the editors at Voices Incorporated to publish a collection of poems, responding to Langston Hughes by defining what America means to each individual.
[edit] "Mutti"
Mutti is a German word for mother and is the title of the second collection of poetry by Voices Incorporated. Inspired by the quote from Honoré de Balzac:
| “ | The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness.[3] | ” |
"Mutti" offers a unique perspective on what mother means to each individual.
