[edit] Added Choline to the vitamin template

I would like to add Choline to the vitamin template. Choline is an essential nutrient, and if it isn't a vitamin what is it? --Coppertwig 08:36, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I added Choline

OK, I added Choline, with "(vitamin-like)". It says on the Choline page that it's an essential nutrient. However, the situation is complex. Like vitamin D (and like water?), choline can be synthesized in the liver. Maybe the ingredient from which choline is synthesized (glycine apparently according to fr:Choline) is also in short supply in the diet; maybe the total amount of glycine plus choline in the diet needs to be above a certain threshold. In an experiment, people deprived of choline had adverse reactions (see reference on Choline page).

Speaking of Vitamin D: I would like to change it so cholecalciferol (D3) and ergocalciferol (D2) are not listed separately. Actually, I would like to just delete ergocalciferol (D2). It says on the Vitamin D page that ergocalciferol does not normally occur in the human body. I think of it as a poor substitute that was used in supplements before people learned how to synthesize real vitamin D (D3). I read that Vitamin D2 is much more toxic than vitamin D3 (not sure if I can find the reference again). In any case, people only need vitamin D; people don't need some of each of D2 and D3, as with the B vitamins. --Coppertwig 12:47, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

How is that template?? If okay I will change out pages with other template, and tag it for deletion.--DO11.10 22:17, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
