Not sure where to leave this, but...

I just noticed that you greatly improved Endemism in the Hawaiian Islands. For this long-needed edit, you get a WikiCookie!

Sure

I don't know anything about Hawaiian Music, so I won't be of any use there, but I would definitely help out with the Hawaiian Wikiproject, seeing as I am already a member. Most of my contributions have been to the NWHI articles, so I could surely be of help to the National Monument's article and Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.

And, I don't know how to donate it to you, but if you need it you can take my reserve sign award. SeanMD80talk | contribs 03:55, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Hawaii Newsletter

Thank you for your amazing suggestions! I have incorporated some of them into the newsletter (see it at User:The Obento Musubi/Sandbox). I have officially designated you editor of the newsletter, because your ideas have shown that you can spice up the newsletter a lot. Happy editing! –The Obento Musubi (Contributions) 04:52, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

To be honest, I don't think I'm going to touch it anymore for now. All feedback is welcome! By the way, I didn't know how to effectively merge SeanMD80's commentary to the first paragraph. :) –The Obento Musubi (Contributions) 05:36, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Sorry I'm leaving you so many messages. It's nearly done, and I added an image of a Laysan Duck mother with her little ducklings. Kawaii!! –The Obento Musubi (Contributions) 06:00, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Will do. Hey, try not to make it too short, because I want it to be as it is now; both columns meet at the same place. –The Obento Musubi (Contributions) 07:47, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, it would be very helpful if you could give me more examples. By the way, you can see the current current one at WP:WikiProject Hawaii/Outreach/Newsletter/April 2008. I decided it shall be for April; May is too far in the future, and I know we can get it done by April. –The Obento Musubi (Contributions) 08:31, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

So, who's going to interview Mr. Jonny? You or me? I certainly know you know what you're doing. You know, if you ever did want to become an admin, you could... easily. And, plus, adminship is not a big deal, right? –The Obento Musubi (Contributions) 08:36, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
AND... I updated the whole template. The empty space on the first column will be dedicated to the interview. I am going to move the left column to the right column, and vice versa. –The Obento Musubi (Contributions) 08:37, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Whoa... wait. Featured portal status? We need to try hard for that, but I know we can do it. So, do you like it better now? The big empty text on the right side will be replaced with the interview with Jonny. –The Obento Musubi (Contributions) 08:41, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Alright, I might get to that tomorrow or tonight. It depends. I'm glad you have so many great suggestions! It's under construction, but I think it's coming along great. :) –The Obento Musubi (Contributions) 09:08, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
Not sure if you know, but I have you, Jonny, and Sean all credited as editors, although I think I'm going to move you up to an editor-in-chief. Of course, without your help, this could not have been at all possible. –The Obento Musubi (Contributions) 09:17, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
Do you like the lines? I think it adds something to the whole thing, but I'm not sure. If not, the only lines I'll keep will be under "Members' Corner" and the second panel thingy. –The Obento Musubi (Contributions) 09:26, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
Oh, puh-leez! You are way too humble. I swear, if I had to guess, I'd guess that you either lived in Hawaii, or are currently living here. OR... you probably have ties to Hawaii. Am I right? –The Obento Musubi (Contributions) 09:28, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Psiphon.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 05:29, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Prehistoric Hawaii

Native Hawaiian oral histories mostly only provide us with information about the latest periods of Hawaiian pre-history and I am not intending to replace Ancient Hawaii with Prehistoric Hawaii actually I want to keep ancient Hawaii on this wiki because it describes the culture of the Native Hawaiians just before European contact in depth while as the future article Prehistoric Hawaii does not focus on any particular time in Pre contact Hawaii and gives a brief summary of each period - maybe in the future when I am done working on Paleolithic and Prehistoric Hawaii I can do articles on the other periods as well.--Fang 23 (talk) 13:56, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

I changed the sentence to Due to a lack of written records from this time period, nearly all of our knowledge of prehistoric Hawaiian society comes from archeology and Native Hawaiian oral histories to make it more accurate also i might not be able to join Wikipedia:WikiProject Hawaii any time soon because I am currently busy in both real life and in improving the article Paleolithic (I’ve improved the article Paleolithic from this to its current state and I still am working on it).--Fang 23 (talk) 17:12, 29 March 2008 (UTC

re:Hippie

I was pleasantly surprised to see how good the hippie article was otherwise, so kudos on that. I would first suggest following the steps at Dispute resolution. If it's really only between the two of you, use Third opinion. If that fails, I would bring up the content to be removed via Request for Comment made before you attempt to remove it again. Remember, The burden of evidence lies with the editor who adds or restores material! If at any time he violates either the 3RR or WP:NPA, you can bring it up at the forums talked about in those pages. The way to handle personal attacks is to be more civil than those who attack you. It will get things solved faster, and look much better if you have to bring it to the attention of administrators. VanTucky 21:17, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

That's not really how it works, unless you reach the point of filing for Mediation, which somewhat of a last resort. VanTucky 03:14, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
I think the important thing to understand that acting like a victim, and saying things like "why is the system made to penalize me?" makes an admin who you might ask for help (fyi: I'm not one, or else I'd just step in) want to up-chuck. They get people like that every day, and it sounds like whining. Stick to the content in question. In a very similar dispute I had not long ago, admin Samir was extremely patient and helpful, facilitating a discussion. You might make a talk message to him about the article. If you make efforts to engage in a polite, consensus-building discussion, and all the other person does is make reverts and personal attacks, then admins will see this if you're persistent. I feel your pain, but you just need to be patient and remember it's still just a Wikipedia article, not the end of the world. Nothing is permanent on a wiki. VanTucky 04:04, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Hope you don't mind my butting in, I just noticed this discussion at VT's talk page. If there really is a conflict about content, the steps outlined in the dispute resolution process (explained very well by VT above, I won't repeat) really are the best and maybe only way to deal with it. I think you will find that people will be more willing to help if they see that someone is demonstrating a desire to work within the (very loose) confines of a system that has been set up precisely to deal with the kind of situation you describe. I wish you the best! -Pete (talk) 04:34, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

'Opaeka'a Falls

After using what material I could fine I wrote as much as I could on 'Opaeka'a Falls. (I'll tweek it some more). However, the DYK rules (last time I looked) were that a stub must be expanded five-fold (they have argued about this) within the five days to be eligible for DYK. This article was 1,134 bytes when I started and is now 3,728 bytes so I would have to get another 3,000 bytes. Don't know it that can be done. I might be able to expand the geology stuff. That article was interesting as I have been to than island and can really image it. Regards, Mattisse (Talk) 23:17, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

I think you should get your article submitted, It has to be a five-fold increase of the article within five days. If you get it submitted you can still improve it, but without worrying about the ticking clock. Regards, Mattisse (Talk) 15:57, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Wikiproject Hawaii requested photographs

Hi Viriditas. I appologize if I accidently depopulated a category that Wikiproject Hawaii was using to keep track of Hawaii topic related articles needing images. I would be happy to repopulate a categroy for that purpose. Photo requests for articles can be categorized as both topic specific (Wikiproject list tracking) and place specific (the counties of the United States). In fact, if you look at Wikipedia:Requested pictures, article talk pages can include many multiple photo request categories, such as Architecture, The Arts, History, People, Places, Science, Society, Technology, and the subcategories listed there. "Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in ..." is used as a place photo matching service for Wikipedians living in a particular U.S. county to let them know that someone would like them to take a photo in that area. Category:Hawaii articles needing images is a great way to keep track Wikiproject Hawaii needs. Again, I appologize for editing Template:WPHawaii. I should not have made changes that impacted Wikiproject Hawaii. Best. GregManninLB (talk) 14:05, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Again, sorry for making the changes I did to Wikiproject Hawaii. I had no intent in doing that, I'm not sure what I was thinking at the time but, looking back, that's what I did by editing Wikiproject Hawaii's template. I fixed Template:WPHawaii Sidebar as well. GregManninLB (talk) 14:30, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: Category:Hawaii articles needing images

The Category was tagged by GregManninLB for speedy deletion as housekeeping. As the category was depopulated when he tagged it, I assumed good faith that it was moved to a separate name, so I deleted it. Clearly that was a goof on my part. It doesn't seem like a category that would normally be empty though. In either case I'll be more careful next time. Wizardman 16:05, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Hawai`i Institute of Marine Biology

They had an argument on the DYK page if the Hawai`i Institute of Marine Biology was the only one in the world to be built on a coral. Some thought "in the world" was redundant! Well, maybe. I am going to finish Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary and then move on to Coconut Island. I should go over to your Hawaiian Portal. (I'm not Hawaiian). Do you have Hawaiian news there , etc.? –Mattisse (Talk) 00:34, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

your comment

On my talk page you refer to Mattisse as "Her" ... do you know for a fact that Mattisse is female or are you assuming? If so I have been mis attributing her (in this case) to being male ie "he" etc , making me wonder if she has been seeing that as an insult?       Redthoreau (talk Redthoreau 01:45, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Hmm ... do you think you could find out? I would ask him/her ... but I am sure he/she would interpret my question in the wrong way considering our "past history". In an odd/hard to explain/maybe sexist? way ... I guess it does make me feel bad if she/he were possibly a female in the way that some of our arguments have played out.       Redthoreau (talk Redthoreau 02:22, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Prehistoric Hawaii

Hi Viriditas, been on a Wikibreak for a bit but saw your message on my talk page. Is your question about the Prehistoric Hawaii article still active or has it been resolved satisfactorily? I've only spent about 2 minutes looking (and thinking) about this, but my first reaction is that I don't have an issue with it. I think a separate treatment of what is known from archaeological evidence, versus another that perhaps combines that with the oral tradition side of the story seems acceptable -- i.e. they complement rather than clash if you ask me, esp. since sometimes it's hard to separate out what statement comes from what tradition, and they both have claims to authority. Sometimes you feel like a Coke, sometimes a Pepsi... My two cents. Cheers, Arjuna (talk) 10:38, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

I started in on a couple of things. I looked at the newsletter and had a thought. If you're including tapu, then how about tattoo? Also, not sure how to change what is listed in a category. Liberty House and Shirokiya should not be in Hawaiiana, IMHO. Makana Chai (talk) 06:00, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Klaatu baraada nikto

My issue was whether the phrase was notable enough to have its own article. Merely being mentioned lots of times in the media doesn't make a phrase notable enough for its own article. I still wonder whether or not it should have its own article, but seeing that you're making an effort to improve the article and show that the phrase is notable and encyclopedic, I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt and not pursue the matter for now. However, I'm hoping that this article will become soemthing more than just a list of all the times the phrase has ever been uttered because, as the article stands right now, it's worthy of being nominated for deletion. Thanks for understanding! --Hnsampat (talk) 01:37, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Please don't misunderstand what I'm saying. I'm not saying that I don't like the article or that I want to see it deleted. (FYI, the result of the AfD was "no consensus," not "keep," which does make a difference.) What I am saying is that the article has no real content other than a long list of everytime the phrase has ever been uttered. So, right now, it can be argued that the article is nothing more than an indiscriminate list. However, I think you're on the right track and the article can be improved. So, I'm encouraging you to keep doing what you're doing. :) --Hnsampat (talk) 01:50, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
In that case, I'll go ahead and restore the "unencyclopedic" and "notability" tags (since I dispute whether the phrase is encyclopedic or notable enough to have its own article) and we'll let other editors who have a stronger interest in the article address those concerns. If the article doesn't improve after some time, it may get nominated for deletion. We'll take things slowly. --Hnsampat (talk) 02:05, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Talk:Bibliography of Philip K. Dick#Lede

Hello. On the request of Ed Fitzgerald, I have evaluated some aspects of your recent conflict with him. I have no opinion on the issue, but I find your comments in the thread linked to above to be needlessly personally aggressive and I would ask you to tone it down a bit. Both of you should focus on the editorial issue at hand, not on any personal issues you might have with each other. Please consider also not to issue templated warnings to established editors in the future, because some (not I) perceive this practice to be rude. Best, Sandstein (talk) 07:57, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

P.S.: Specifically, this edit is out of line, as it amounts to a threat of edit warring. I'll be watching the article for a limited period of time and may decide to block any editor engaging in edit warring. Sandstein (talk) 08:03, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Hawaii Newsletter (again)

Greetings, Viriditas! It's time again to work on the newsletter. All ideas are appreciated; I'd just like to keep communication flowing between us. – Obento Musubi (CGS) 06:50, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the congrats! Yeah, I do need your help. I've been so busy with school, and I'm sick right now, and I know I can't do this by myself. – Obento Musubi (CGS) 16:31, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for wishing me good health. I'm feeling better, and I have no fever. Anyway, I will try to get working on the newsletter, although I know that I probably won't be able to work on the June newsletter. The whole month, I will need to catch up, study for finals, and I think I'm pretty busy. The July newsletter should be okay, though, 'cause school would be done. Just letting you know in advance. – Obento Musubi (CGS) 00:44, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
It sounds very good to me. I'm sorry I can't help. Fever just came back, and I'm coughing like there's no tomorrow. I feel terrible. – Obento Musubi (CGS) 17:46, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

No, thank you!

Thank you so much for fixing up the references on the aloha page. I apologize, I am so focused on content I forget about wikifying. Hope you're feeling better. Makana Chai (talk) 07:13, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Kavebear

Hi, I have been recently writing articles about descendant of Kamehameha the Great's brother Kalokuokamaile since the internet simply has so little about it. I created the article House of Keoua Nui by pasting the article of House of Kawananakoa and adding a few changes here and there without changing the basic format. I a little confused of what to really call it should it be House of Laanui, which is the way it is right now, or House of Keoua Nui or House of Kalokuokamaile. I apologize about the edits I did to User:Nnythm's edit on Robert Kalanikupuapaikalaninui Wilcox II. I have replied to him saying about my habit of not using the edit summary which only use in rare occassions.KAVEBEAR (talk) 02:05, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Colors

I modified Template:Infobox Hawaiian Royalty so it was almost like Template:Infobox British Royalty with the exception of the Kuhina Nui slot. Eventhough I added the Kuhina Nui slot it does not show up in Kamehameha II when I enter it in. Also do you know the code name for the colors on the infoboxes because I can't figure it out. Merging

The article Pāpā and Papahanaumoku referred to the same goddess both are wife of Wakea and the Hawaiian Earth Mother. I think there was probably a mistake. I think they should be mergedKAVEBEAR (talk) 02:24, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Puppetry?

I'll give him a reasonable time to answer, i.e. sometime today, then I'll scratch out or delete or whatever seems appropriate, if necessary; probably delete, as it's off-topic anyway. Just to be clear, I already have rollback privilege, he simply questioned whether I should have gotten it, and it was a fair complaint, since I had crossed the 3RR line with him earlier this year. Rollback, in fact, is simply a keystroke-saver, nothing more, unless I'm overlooking something. It comes in handy quickly zapping the many vandalisms I run into daily on articles that I watch (which is too long a list at this point). Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 15:23, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Actually, he hasn't been on yet today, but I'll go ahead and delete. I got your attention, anyway. Be aware that I hardly ever suffer "hurt feelings" by anything anyone says here. I just don't like being mis-characterized. If there is anything out there, he'll let me know, and if not, then "dat's dat". P.S. I'm not watching those article pages anymore, as the questions I had about them have been answered. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 15:34, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Welcome menu template

Hi,

Per your suggestion a while back, I'm using the {{WelcomeMenu}} template. Twice I've added it, and twice it's come up with odd substitution problems: [2] and [3]. I'm confused, and am curious what is up with that! And since you suggested using the template, you're the one I came to with my problem : ) Thanks, WLU (talk) 19:14, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Ah, never mind, it's a subst: problem! Now it's the Best Template Evar! Thanks. WLU (talk) 19:16, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
You may not think it's funny, you may not have any idea what I'm talking about, but check out the template used in the footnotes section [4]. WLU (talk) 20:40, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Update

How's the newsletter coming? I'll check on it soon, make some minor edits. Could you also ID the flower on my userpage? I took it a couple of years ago, but I don't know what it is. – Obento Musubi (CGS) 19:16, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Thank you so much! Wow, that was pretty quick; I didn't expect that at all! Now I remember where I took it. I took it at a place called Gaylord's on Kauai, where we had a continental breakfast. Cheers! – Obento Musubi (CGS) 18:54, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. Maybe you'll relate with me (or not), but the vog here is killing me. Have you heard about Halemaumau and Kilauea? Geez, there's so much vog, and with my asthma, that can't be good. So... I'm still coughing. – Obento Musubi (CGS) 08:51, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Sounds like a great idea. It's clearing for us too. It must've been absolutely horrifying on Maui. But, yeah, it's the worst I've ever experienced. Do you want to do a rush copy of the May newsletter about this, or should we save it for June?Obento Musubi (CGS) 17:45, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: Admin Coaching

I did participate in it. Sadly, the coach I got wasn't very kind to me, and retired from admin coaching (after like a month after starting). I think you would make a wonderful admin coach... if you were an admin. Thank you for helping me so much. – Obento Musubi (CGS) 02:55, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

I'm sorta indifferent regarding the ʻ}okina and kahako, but I usually add it in the titles and move it. For example, a lanai (verandah, with no ʻokina) is different from Lanaʻi, the island. – Obento Musubi (CGS) 02:58, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
You know, that's a great idea. Thanks for having so much confidence in me. Someday, karma will get you, and you will be an administrator here... no, a bureaucrat. You keep up the good work, and I ought to give you a barnstar or an award of some sort. – Obento Musubi (CGS) 04:11, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Ah, pshaw... I'm doing it now. My internet connection is just really slow right now. – Obento Musubi (CGS) 04:30, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for all of your help with the newsletter. It looks great. Absolutely great. :) – Obento Musubi (CGS) 04:38, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

The thing is, I'm not sure if I'll really tend to participate in that. If I do become an administrator, I'll probably become an administrator that protects pages, blocks anonymous IP addresses and speedy deletes pages. – Obento Musubi (CGS) 18:15, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Thank you. I thank you very much. – Obento Musubi (CGS) 21:54, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Aloha Tower

Thanks, but I'm familiar with the rules governing galleries. I'm also familiar with the outline at BRD. In general, people who employ BRD to explain their rationale are doing so in order to preserve their version of the page and to justify any future reversion. For this reason, I ignore (and will continue to ignore) people any time they start quoting it.

My concern at Aloha Tower isn't that there's a gallery on the page, but that none of the images are actually of Aloha Tower. None of them are relevant to the article and everything in those pictures is wikilinked earlier in the article (with the pictures to accompany their respective articles). If there was a gallery of pictures of Aloha Tower, I wouldn't care, but as it is we have a bunch of pictures of things that aren't the subject of the article and are thusly somewhat confusing to the reader.

I hope this satifies the D in BRD and we don't have to keep arguing over a bunch of stupid pictures. Cumulus Clouds (talk) 05:53, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

  • That being the case, would you prefer one of the images out of the gallery to be incorporated into the text, or for that gallery to be removed altogether? Cumulus Clouds (talk) 18:29, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

not wanting to intrude or something....

....but doing two reverts and then one removal of text on 24 hours sort of goes against the spirit of 3RR, if not against its letter. However, I would say that Viriditas did *not* violate 3RR because his last edit was to move the disputed paragraph to the talk page to continue improving it and stop an edit war. I notice that Arcayne has done 3 reverts on 24 hours. --Enric Naval (talk) 00:10, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Blocked

Blocked: three days for edit warring. You and Arcayne are both recalcitrant edit warriors, and have been going at it for several days on Children of Men, and it's getting quite disruptive. The discussion on the talk page seems to have spiraled into mudslinging and I can't forsee any useful conversation coming from it, so some time on the bench may be beneficial for both you and the situation at the article. When you come back from your block, please remember to make use of our various avenues of dispute resolution instead of bypassing the negotiating stage with hostile behavior such as continuous reverting. east.718 at 18:59, May 1, 2008
This is not an unblock request, as the cards are stacked against me, but 2 reverts a day to a new version of the article in a 24 hour period is not "continuous reverting". I have been actively involved in a talk page discussion, one RFC, and two noticeboard discussions during each edit. If you take a look at the edit history starting on April 22, you'll see that Arcayne has attempted to revert every edit that I've made to the page, including at least three different compromise versions that maintained and preserved his edits to avoid an edit war. This recent edit shows that I expanded the article with new content and merged the previous version into other sections as a compromise. No other previous version reflects this change and no information was removed. Expansion and editing are not edit warring. However, without any discussion or explanation, Arcayne [5] reverted my edits one minute later[6]. I reverted since no explanation or discussion for this blanket reverted had been provided and Arcayne reverted me again [7] without discussion or explanation. This was his third reversion in 24 hours, after previously reverting me here. I have made every attempt to resolve this dispute and in my latest edit, I have attempted to preserve, not remove the edits of the other editor. Since April 22, every edit I have made has been reverted in bad faith by Arcayne, while my initial response to each initial revert is to develop a compromise version, none of which have ever been accepted by Arcayne. I have discussed every edit I've ever made to this article and I've worked very hard to accept the consensus of the RFC and noticeboard discussions, all of which have been rejected by Arcayne. I would also like to point out that my last block was erroneous, and was not a violation of the 3RR as claimed by User:Madman but rather, three reverts of User:Obedium, a User:Scibaby sock puppet on James Hansen. Viriditas (talk) 21:48, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Viriditas, I've left a message on Arcayne's and East718's talkpages regarding this recent block of two respected users. Please view their respective pages. I'm hoping for a quicker resolution so as not to lose two good editors. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 21:53, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
I would be perfectly happy with a 1RR limitation for both editors on this article, as that would force Arcayne to actually start writing articles instead of just blanket reverting my edits three times a day. Viriditas (talk) 22:11, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
If I'm being honest, that isn't the response I was looking for. I was hoping for an "I'm sorry, I also was guilty of ......(fill in the blank)....instead of an additonal accusation against another long term editor. Care to revisit? Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 22:15, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I apologize. I was referring to this. I have to step out for a bit, but you are right. I apologize for my behavior. Viriditas (talk) 22:21, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
At this point, I haven't heard back from the blocking admin, or the other involved party. I'm gong offline in a bit here though. Hope everything works out for the best. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 22:25, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
No worries! I'm working on developing a news article for Wikinews on the aftermath of our latest eruption in Hawaii, putting together a collaboration with the fashion project for Aloha shirt, finishing the peer review of Hippie, prepping the List of English words of Hawaiian origin for expansion, researching Niihau, and expanding Amaranthus brownii‎ to GA status. Being blocked gives me the ability to still do these things without being logged in online. I can work offline just as well. Have a great day. Viriditas (talk) 23:56, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

So that took a lot longer than I hoped....

Hi Viriditas,

Sorry to have taken so long, but I've gone over the eight disputed articles for WP:HAWAII. I've put some comments up at User talk:jonny-mt#News Bureau; I'd appreciate your looking over them and possibly adding some more of your own before we take it back to the main project.

Incidentally, now that life is more or less back to normal and I'm all used to my shiny new buttons, I'm going to swing back a little bit more to the content-creation side. Needless to say I was sad to see that I missed the DYK drive, but hopefully I'll be able to get some more good stuff up in the near future :) --jonny-mt 10:50, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Great! It looks good, Jonny. I think your opinions are sound. I see no reason not to just move the discussion over from your talk page to the project talk page. Is it possible for you to leave a brief comment for the two disputants, User:Arjuna808 and User:JereKrischel, on their respective talk pages? Perhaps letting them know that you've reviewed the disputes and would welcome their opinions? Could you also add a copy of your findings to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Hawaii/Outreach/News Bureau so we can summarize them in June's issue? If you have any other ideas for June's issue, take a look at the main News Bureau page. A portal update would be nice too, perhaps reiterating exactly what you need people do. We should have added the Portal requests you discussed in April to the May's issue, but I completely forgot. We still need people to work on featured biographies, anniversaries, quotes, and ʻŌlelo. In an unrelated matter, do you think we should protect Wikipedia:WikiProject_Hawaii/Outreach/Newsletter/April_2008 to prevent vandalism? It's not going to be edited at all at any time in the future. Please let me know. BTW, I'm working on a number of DYK's right now. If you're interested, I can give you a few. User:Makana Chai has just started improving List of English words of Hawaiian origin (along with User:The Obento Musubi), so if you can lend a hand bringing it to FL criteria, or offer critical comments for improvement, that would be appreciated. Thanks, again for following up. Viriditas (talk) 03:15, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
All right, thanks for the feedback! I'll go ahead and do that--hopefully I'll get a chance to work a bit on the portal this month as well. As for the DYKs, I've actually been saving a number of lists of places on the Big Island that I'd like to write about (personally, I can't believe Chain of Craters Road didn't already have an article), so I'll just see if I can't help out a little bit with the list as I get back into the swing of editing. Mahalo! --jonny-mt 14:07, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Oop, almost forgot! As far as protection goes, the target audience is small and loyal enough that I don't think there's a significant enough risk of vandalism yet to warrant protection--even the Signpost is unprotected (and seems to be reaping certain benefits from this fact). Besides, any protection would be limited to semi so as to allow yourself and Obento to make last-minute changes, which means that the only people it would stop would be new users; since any new users who know enough to vandalize a project newsletter rather than a public-facing article are bound to be socks, they'd be dealt with through blocks rather than protection.
So in other words, don't worry about it :) --jonny-mt 14:44, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Response to User:67.169.127.166

67.169.127.166's attack upon User:Hokulani78 over at Talk:History of Hawaii was completely baseless and evidently a troll as I originally suspected. The IP claims to be a historian, but doesn't appear to be familiar with the scholarly literature on the subject. The published work of anthropologist Peter R. Mills specifically addresses and supports the points Hokulani78 raises and puts 67.169.127.166's comments to shame. Who should we believe, an anonymous IP claiming to be a historian who attacks editors and makes outrageous off-topic comments or this guy. Tough decision, right? New Project

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 18:41, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm really not sure what you thing was wrong with my improvements to the hippie article. I didn't delete any relevant content; I mostly just moved content to the correct sections. I also corrected the formatting of the reference and links sections at the bottom as per Wikipedia layout guidelines. Line of Succesion to the Hawaiian throne

Is there any way to keep the words going down straight with numberings? I placed an <ol> symbol and it got me the numberings but it slants to the right after a while.
