| Cyperus laevigatus L. |
Cyperus laevigatus is a species of sedge.
[edit] In Hawaii
Before the 19th century, the plant was widely used by native Hawaiians to weave the famous makaloa mats on the Hawaiian island of Niihau. Except for small, surviving isolated plant populations, C. laevigatus was threatened with extirpation from the introduction of grazing sheep. Recent conservation efforts have begun restoring the plants native habitat.
