Cultural institutions which serve alcohol, such as bars and pubs, often attract more violence than similar cultural institutions[citation needed]. This may be related to the inhibition-reducing effects of drunkenness. Violence in bars and pubs is a common image in popular culture, with bar brawls being a common device in fiction.
