Vinh Nghiem Pagoda

Vĩnh Nghiêm Pagoda (Vietnamese language: Chùa Vĩnh Nghiêm; Hán tự: 永嚴寺, literally Ever Solemn) is a pagoda in an area of 6,000 m² at 339, Nam Kỳ Khởi Nghĩa street, Ward 7, District 3 Ho Chi Minh City. This is the first pagoda in Vietnam to be built in Vietnamese traditional architecture style but with concrete[citation needed]. The highest structure in this pagoda is the 7-story, 40m-high tower. This pagoda houses and worship of one buddha and two bodhisattvas: Gautama Buddha, Manjusri, Samantabhadra.

In 1964, two monks Thích Tâm Giác and Thích Thanh Kiểm came to South Vietnam from North Vietnam to spread Buddhism and had Vinh Nghiem Pagoda built. They adopted the version of design from a wooden namesake pagoda in Đức La Village, Trí Yên Commune, Tạng Giang County, Bắc Giang Province, which was built from the Ly Dynasty, king Lý Thái Tổ. The village used to be a center for teaching and spreading of branch of Buddhism of Trúc Lâm.
