Vikingfjord
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Vikingfjord is a brand of Vodka, distilled from potatoes and bottled by Arcus AS, Oslo, Norway. It is distilled through a six-column process, using only glacial water from the Jostedalsbreen glacier in South-Western Norway.
The brand was introduced in the 1980's by the Vinmonopolet chain of state-owned liquor-stores. The stores, which have a monopoly on all retail wine and liquor sales in Norway, introduced the product to compete with foreign brands sold in Norway. Sales were sluggish until marketing of the brand was taken over by Arcus in 2004[1].
Pre-mixed flavored coctails are also sold in Norway under the name Vikingfjord IceBreaker.
Vikingfjord is sold in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Germany and the United States. In the U.S. it has been marketed since 2002 as a super-premium vodka, and is, as of 2006, number 9 among imported vodkas[2]. Vikingfjord won the Gold Metal in the 2006 San Francisco Worlds Spirits Competition in the Unflavored Vodka, 40% category.
Popular Vikingford Mixes
Because of the relatively inexpensive cost of Vikingfjord, (Retail United States Price of 19.99 for 1.75 Liters), Vikingfjord is a very popular vodka among many Northeastern Colleges, where it is mixed with various fruit juices to mask the edgy taste.[citation needed]
