The following quote seems rather strong as it seems to identify one side of the dispute as 'relentless enemies' of freedom. Equating the Dutch Revolt with a struggle for freedom seems to me a very 19th century notion. It is now more commonly regarded as a civil war and as such perhaps we should treat all sites of the conflict (including Viglius's) in more neutral tones.

Viglius was an advocate of peace and moderation, and as such could not expect support or sympathy from men engaged in a life-and-death struggle for liberty, or from their relentless enemies.
