Vic Garth

Vic Garth was born September 9, 1902 and was a much loved citizen of Hobart, Tasmania. He is known for his service to the city as its town crier for over 20 years, until his death in April 2005 at the age of 92. Though battling with cancer for several years he continued to greet cruise ships as they arrived, and frequently appeared at Hobart's Salamanca Market on Saturdays. He was considered a great ambassador for Hobart, and was described as a very friendly and outgoing man. In 2003 he became known as the oldest town crier in the world.
