tentative oppose Can't find to much documentation to verify that Fernández is more used in English. NYT, Globe and Mail, CNN/SI all use Fernandez, for example. Google hit count (crude but useful to build cumulative cases) runs

  • 76,000 [1] Fernandez
  • 1,050 [2] Fernández (although, quite notably, the first result is from NYT, apparently they don't have a consistent pattern on this one. On the other hand, many of these hits are also quasi-Spanish, even though Google was told only to search English, or are pointing to a musician named Vicente Fernández.)

Based on these usage statistics, I conclude that the English spelling is Fernandez, and based on WP:ENGLISH, I would support the current title.Erudy (talk) 20:28, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Gene's comments (below) showed me that my previous post was not very clear. The statistical analysis is not on the general usage of the common surname Fernandez/Fernández, but rather on the specific usage of "Vicente Fernandez"/"Vicente Fernández" to describe the golfer in English. I apologize for any confusion.Erudy (talk) 07:28, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Oppose per Erudy, and since no evidence of any reason for change has been presented. Gene Nygaard (talk) 23:56, 20 November 2007 (UTC) Actually, I oppose not because of Erudy's comments about some general Fernandez/Fernández statistics, but rather as it should be, for the usage in English related to this particular person, including the references cited in the article. Gene Nygaard (talk) 00:47, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

  • Support Golfer bears a common Spanish name that should be written with the accent it contains, even in the English language which adequately allows such usage. Húsönd 00:21, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
