Below is an archive of the WP:CFDS discussion. The result was a contested speedy, so there was no consensus for a rename. Please feel free to list at CfD.-Andrew c [talk] 23:17, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

- Comment Unless there is already an established WP consensus to use "Victorian" for the categories relating to the Australian state of Victoria, I think that will be too ambiguous; "Victorian" to most people means an era, not a place. I.e., I argue for a disambiguation variance from the naming conventions in this case (there are many such cases, such as Category:English players of English billiards vs. Category:English English billiards players). Another example would be Category:New Zealand musical groups vs. Category:New Zealander musical groups or Category:New Zealish musical groups; we don't always go with an adjectival form, only when it makes sense to do so. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 20:00, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

- Reply to comment - the adjectival form of New Zealand is "New Zealand" - in other words, the NZ examples you give are in adjectival form, as is standard practice for musical groups. "Victorian" does pose a problem with its multiple meanings, however. Grutness...wha? 01:02, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

- Comment - I was just following the name of the category for the state (Category:Victoria). And I used adjectival form to be consistent with the already created Category:Western Australian musical groups and because the parent category is also in adjectival form (Australian), plus it just sounds more correct. - kollision 11:48, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

- Just to add to the confusion, I should point out that Victoria is the capitol of British Columbia (which in turn has nothing to do with Columbia). So Category:Victorian musicians could be mistaken for a subcategory of Category:British Columbia musicians (which should be renamed as "British Columbian"). Obviously, the solution to all this is to Blame Canada! :) Xtifr tälk 01:37, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

- I was originally of the view that Victorian musical groups would bring it in line with the other Australian State musical group categories however I can see the point that SMcCandlish raises in respect to potential misunderstandings but after much thought I have to agree with kollision in that it just makes more sense Dan arndt 08:57, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
