Vetrovoye (also Sopochny Southwest) is a former air base on Iturup, Russia located 66 km northeast of Burevestnik. The airfield was built perhaps in the 1930s or 1940s and may have been operated by Japan during World War II. It is unknown whether the airfield was used during the postwar years, however it is noteworthy that the airfield does not correspond to any Soviet-era configurations, so it was probably unused by the Soviets.[citation needed] Google Earth high-resolution imagery shows that what exists may be crumbling concrete or gravel.[original research?]
