Vertou is a commune in the département of Loire-Atlantique and the Pays de la Loire region of France. It is a component of the metropolitan Urban Community of Nantes and is the fifth-largest suburb of the city of Nantes, lying just southeast of Nantes. In the 1999 census, Vertou had a population of 20,268. The commune has a land area of 35.68 km² (13.776 sq mi). Vertou is an historical town of Brittany.
