Vern
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Vern" (on rare occasions called Vernon) was an unseen character in the Ernest P. Worrell commercials, sketches and movies starring Jim Varney. Ernest always spoke to Vern by addressing the camera, thus allowing the viewer to "see through Vern's eyes". Vern never spoke to Ernest, but his nonverbal reactions were often shown.
Although always incorporated into the "Ernest" franchise (though sometimes in minuscule amounts), "Vern" was generally very annoyed by Ernest, and made no qualms about attempting to shut Ernest out of his life (e.g., by shutting windows on Ernest's fingers, etc.).
One of Worrell's more famous trademark phrases was the question: "KnoWhutImean?", almost always directed toward Vern.
Vern has quite a lot of friends and a large family. He has been married more than once and has several children including an overweight daughter and a little girl (possibly even more). His brother-in-law plays basketball and get's a big thrill from scaring Ernest. He also owns a dog named Shorty. Vern is considered well-off due to his pool parties he has every summer and his posh kitchen. Vern also owns a speedboat. He has worked at McDonald's before, where he always ripped Ernest off. However, Ernest was too light headed to notice it. Vern is on good terms with the local news crews and has established good friendships with the reporters.
Vern has several unhealthy habits such as smoking and drinking. He has also been warned about his weight several times and also has to make frequent trips to his dentist. One time Vern was about to drive home from a party while drunk, but Ernest saved him by driving him home instead. Most of the time, Ernest is out to help him, but Vern is just too afraid of him to notice.
