[edit] Vermont Reds
According to an article in the Washington Post [1] about Rep. Bernie Sanders, Sanders when mayor of Burlington brought a minor league baseball team to the town. And the team was called the Vermont Reds.
Is it this team? And was "Vermont Reds" a knickname (as Sanders is an avowed socialist) or used it to be the real name? -- fdewaele, 5 November 2006, 21:05
According to their official web site[2], the team was called the Expos ever since their founding in 1994. It was changed to Lake Monsters on November 15, 2005. The team was never officially called the Reds. Quacks Like a Duck 23:32, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Above user is wrong, according to vermontlakemonsters.com, the team originally was Vermont Reds, then Vermont Mariners: "Notable Vermont Reds/Mariners: Barry Larkin, Lloyd McClendon, Paul O'Neill, Chris Sabo, Jeff Treadway (Reds); Ken Griffey Jr., Omar Vizquel (Mariners)"
- There was a team that played in Burlington in the late eighty's called the Vermont Reds they changed their name to Vermont Mariners. But this team is not related to the Vermont Expos/Lake Monsters. The Vermont Reds/Mariners left Burlington. The city was without a baseball team for several years before the Expos moved in.The Goat 16:30, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- The Vermont Reds was named for the major league team. It had nothing to do with Sanders' politics. The Goat 16:30, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
