Category talk:Vegans
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This Category needs to be merged, Vegans and vegetarians are the exact same.--Jack Cox 03:32, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
- Well, they're not the same, but I do agree with you. At first, everybody was placed into the Vegetarians category, but then somebody decided to create a separate Vegans category. I think it makes things too complicated. --Musicpvm 06:09, 11 September 2005 (UTC)
- I disagree. If you beleieve vegans and vegetarians are the same, I suggest you read the articles veganism and vegetarianism. Yes, vegans are a subset of vegetarians, hence why this is a subcategory of Category:Vegetarians. But they are a distinct group, possibly with distinct lifestyles / beliefs etc. And many of the people in this category are well known as being "vegan" as opposed to being vegetarian. I'm not sure how it makes things 'too complicated' - it is not incorrect for vegans to be in Category:Vegetarians, it's just more precise for them to be in Category:Vegans. I have removed the merge tag as it is for articles, not categories. --Vclaw 00:44, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
- Vegans are very different from vegeterians. Yeah, vegans are a subset of vegeterians, but a small subset (most vegeterians are not vegans). Your statement is like saying Americans come from the Earth, so everyone who lives on the Earth is am American. 66.75.49.213 10:04, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
does anyne else take issue with the "as a conscious choice" part of the description? it seems superfluous.
- I don't. Some people eat only vegetables and water, not by choice, but due to poverty or other restrictions. If given a chance, some would eat animal products. They're not considered vegan, as vegans would not eat meat if given the choice. Falsedef 02:06, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, I see what you're saying now, and it did seem redundant.Falsedef 02:07, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
