Vause Raw

South African politician of the apartheid era. Born in Durban in 1921, Vause Raw was a prominent member of the United Party from the 1940s onwards. After the party disbanded in 1977, Raw was elected leader of its successor, the New Republic Party,[1] continuing in that capacity until 1984. He served for many years in the whites-only parliament as the MP for Durban's Point constituency. He died on the 21st of March, 2001 after a long illness[2]. Twice married, he was the father of seven children.
