"A variable frequency oscillator (VFO) is a component in a radio receiver or transmitter that controls the frequency to which the apparatus is tuned." The above is not encyclopedic and neglects all the VFOs found in stroboscopes, oscilloscopes, many other sorts of test equipment, cable modems, tone dialing, musical instruments, sirens...Cuddlyable3 21:20, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
