[edit] January 2008

Please be aware that dispute reolution is curently being undertaen on this subject regarding the vilage pump (assistance). Active discussions have been undertaken to engage with users, civility by certian users has not been maintianed. I have tried to stay on the content as far as possible and uphold the policies and guidelins of wikipedia. --Lucy-marie (talk) 12:25, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

That's good. The template I gave you actually turned out a little sterner than I meant it to - an information template would have been more appropriate. I gave the same warning to Angelriver, just to gently remind you both that you may soon violate 3RR whether you intend to or not. Also, can I make a request? You archived this comment before I had a chance to reply, and before you even knew whether I wanted to reply. Could you try to wait about two days after a comment is made before archiving it? You could get MiszaBot III to archive it automatically for you. It won't hurt to leave it for a short while, like 48 hours, then archive, will it? —Vanderdeckenξφ 12:32, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Apologies for archiving before you had a chance to comment, I was though expecting a response here rather than on my talk page, so as to keep the responses in one place. The dispute resolution process was also undertaken before the warning was given.--Lucy-marie (talk) 12:38, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re:numbers

Personal preference really, I think it looks more professional for an encyclopedia to spell them out than use a digit for most numbers, "thirty-five Game of the Year awards" just feels better to me than "35 Game of the Year awards". The manual of style allows it. "numbers of more than one digit are generally rendered as digits, but may be spelled out if they are expressed in one or two words". Thanks for the heads up on the "a thousand" -> "one thousand" bit though. -- Sabre (talk) 13:29, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] "Welcome"?

I though it strange to receive a welcome today since I'm a member for years and made a few contributions on the period. Why have you sent me that message? Asrail (talk) 03:06, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

OK, I was just curious. Thanks. Asrail (talk) 02:52, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Edits/Vandalism on Wikipedia

Hi Vanderdecken, Thanks for your note. As you mentioned, I am very new and am trying to proceed with caution on edits and changes. That's why I'm only starting with grammar, misspellings and other things. I'm a little tentative to actually "add" content and citations. If I do see vandalism on pages, what's the best thing to do? Thanks for all your help. Csalomonlee (talk) 23:30, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback on vandalism and helpful tool. I'll look into it and go from there. I did do some style editing for one record, so starting to understand policies more. Csalomonlee (talk) 21:52, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Centralized TV Episode Discussion

Over the past months, TV episodes have been redirected by (to name a couple) TTN, Eusebeus and others. No centralized discussion has taken place, so I'm asking everyone who has been involved in this issue to voice their opinions here in this centralized spot, be they pro or anti. Discussion is here [1]. Even if you have not, other opinions are needed because this issue is affecting all TV episodes in Wikipedia. --Maniwar (talk) 02:39, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Cape St. Vincent FP Nom

Hi Vanderdecken, I've uploaded an alternative picture of the Cape St. Vincent site on Mars for an FP nomination. It basically shows the same site in much greater scope. I'd appreciate if you'd check it out at the nomination page. Thanks!—DMCer 18:00, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thanks for the welcome. I am mostly into writing about physics and space technology, but have lately got myself into a bit of a flap with the Interpretations of 2001: A Space Odyssey (see talk and sandbox, and articles on the film and the novel), where I am way over my head I fear. Anyhow, it is clear I need all the help I can get. WikiCulture and WikiLaw are a bit daunting in this 2001 context. I will try to work through the resources you suggested.

At least I seem to have made peace with Groupthink and Dreadstar for the moment, both formidable characters it seems. Cheers, Bill Wwheaton (talk) 21:28, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Bliss.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Bliss.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:04, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Removal of category from your userpage

Hi. In enacting consensus from User categories for discussion, I have removed the category Category:Wikipedians interested in books from your userpage. It was determined in that deletion debate that this category should be depopulated of individuals, but kept as a parent category. If you wish to display a category reflecting your interest in books, please consider one of the specific sub-categories under its umbrella. Thanks, and please excuse the necessary editing of your user page! ----Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:16, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Talkpage guidelines

Hi, Vanderdecken.

I've noticed that, at least a few times ([2], [3], [4]) you've left notes to others regarding proper etiquette of user talkpage maintenance, specifically instruction warning them against removing comments from their talkpages. While, obviously, communication with others is a positive thing and should be encouraged, you may want to discontinue reversion of such messages.

As stated on the essay (not policy, by any stretch, but certainly valuable guiding information) Wikipedia:Don't restore removed comments: If a user removes a comment from their own talk page, (legitimate or not), it should remain removed. By removing the comment, the user has verified that they have read it. The comment is still in the page history, so it is not important to keep it visible just to prove that the user was told about it.

In the "User talkpage blanking" (Wikipedia:BLANKING) subsection of Wikipedia:User page (which you've doubtless read, as you've quoted it to others here), it says: Policy does not prohibit users from removing comments from their own talk pages, although archiving is preferred.

Also, just so you do understand that there is actual, binding, block-enforced policy involved, you may also wish to see Wikipedia:3RR#Exceptions: One pertinent exception: reverts performed by a user within his or her own user page, user subpages, provided that such reverts do not restore copyright violations, libelous material, WP:BLP violations, or other kinds of inappropriate content enumerated in this policy or elsewhere Note that it does not give an exception to restoring the removed comments of others, so if you and one of these users were to revert-war over the issue and (for instance) hit four reverts to the page each, the other user would be free to continue editing, whilst you'd be burdened with the inability to edit for up to 24 hours and a permanent entry in your block log.

Please don't consider this some sternly worded warning from some overly stern admin, but a reminder that these sorts of edits are lacking, both in policy and etiquette, and if you should refrain from performing them again, it would be beneficial to all involved including yourself. Spread the joy that is Wikipedia! :)

If you feel the need to respond to me personally, you may wish to contact me on Meta rather than on English Wikipedia. Sadly, with the Sysop SUL migration, I'm keeping quite busy and not editing here as much as I'd like. ~Kylu (u|t) 05:21, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Netball Kendra Slawinski

Hi I added a page called Kendra Lowe this was updated and pointed to Kendra Slewenski. The spelling of her last name is wrong which is why I didn't find it when I did a search it should be Slawinski. I have edited the text pages but obviously can't edit the article page. Who can change this? --TabbyHils (talk) 09:42, 13 April 2008 (UTC)TabbyHils

[edit] What is an "edit summary field"

You posted this on my talk page in February...

"Finally, please do your best to always fill in the edit summary field. "

What is an "edit summary field," and how do you fill it in. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Philkon (talkcontribs) 03:17, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Edit summary

If you look at that sentence again above ("please do your best to always fill in the edit summary field") you'll see that the words Edit summary are linked, just like that, to the help page telling you what an edit summary is and why you should use it. —Vanderdecken∴ ∫ξφ 19:19, 2 May 2008 (UTC) [edit]==

[edit] Re. May 2008

Hello Vanderdecken and thank you for contacting me. Actually, I always warn the vandals I revert and even confess I get a little bit grrrrr too when I see someone reverting them and not warning right away. BUT, yesterday I've started using Huggle to assist me in carrying out massive vandalfight just like in the good old days (I used to run Vandalproof, but Windows Vista will not allow me to use it anymore). But, just like Vandalproof, Huggle seems to forget to warn vandals every now and then. So, Huggle's to blame. :-) Best regards, Húsönd 12:13, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Vanderdecken. Thanks for giving me the message. I've been using WP:WARN for ages. Don't worry. I sometimes did not give warnings when vandalisms are not so destructive. You need to select which users who need warnings and which don't. Sometimes they just accidently pressed the save changes button when they made some test. Cheers. Dekisugi (talk) 01:30, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Egyptian Air Force

Bonjour Vanderdecken

[edit] Comment from Moonsell

Not sure where to put this for you, Greg. Thanks for the comment alerting me to the saving page many times problem. The main thing that limita me for the future about it are if I put too many edits in one save they all get trashed with a single revert on the basis to an objection to one of them. Also there is human fallability, that I can't always be organised enough to get the job done right in one (or sometimes, even a few) goes. I'll try to keep your suggestion in mind, though and make an effort to use the sandbox to avoid having to do the same job too many times. Best wishes. Moonsell (talk) 09:43, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] RE: May 2008

Where does it specifically state that? I do not see it. American format demands commas marking off the year. When people don't have their own preferences, they must at least see a grammatical format. Consensus was reached a while ago that the entire article would take American style. To answer your question, I am much too busy editing when I am on Wikipedia to make a vanity page. All that I need to lend me "credibility" is my edit count and if others see a redlink an assume negative things, then they're violating guidelines. clicketyclickyaketyyak 07:48, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Renaming of account on fr.wp

Hello,

Since Anthere is more occupied than I, I thought I could answer you. Usurpation is no problem, but I'll need an edit from this account, here, just to confirm you're the one making the request. Regards, Blinking Spirit (talk) 17:07, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Dear Vanderdecken, it really annoys me that u did not care about what i wrote as a comment on ur warning, which i see it very unfair. please care about it, show some respect, and discuss it, or remove ur warning. One last pharaoh (talk) 14:13, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
