[edit] Suburb and city?

The definitions of suburb don't seem to make it possible for something be both a suburb and a city. The ref provided by Nyttend clearly shows that the US census 2000 indicate it to be a city. Can someone find a ref that shows that a place can be both at once? -- Jeandré, 2007-09-13t19:26z

In the State of Ohio, where Vandalia is located, any incorporated community with a population over 5000 is considered a city by the state government. Vandalia is bordered by the much larger city of Dayton, Ohio and is thus considered a suburb. It is included in the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The state does not have an official term 'suburb', nearly all of Dayton's suburbs are "cities" according to Ohio state law. It is referred to as a suburb here, and here (a regional government agency), as well as many other legitimate web sources. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Prinzwilhelm (talkcontribs) 19:46, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
