Vamanrao Deshpande (1907-1990) was a famous music critic. He grew up in Pune in western India where he started studying Indian Classical Music at an early age. His gurus include Sureshbabu Mane, Naththan Khan and Mogubai Kurdikar. He was a Chartered Accountant by profession. He and his friend Professor Deodhar started a trend in music criticism. Deshpande's son Satyasheel is a singer who has made a good name for himself.
