Valley Fair Mall (West Valley City, Utah)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Valley Fair Mall, is a shopping center located in West Valley City, Utah. It was constructed in 1970 on property immediately to the west of the I-215 belt route in the Salt Lake Valley, and as of 2005 was the site of 102 retail stores, including anchor stores Macy's (formerly Meier & Frank and before that ZCMI), Mervyn's, and JCPenney. It is also home to a nine-screen Cinemark movie theater.
Satterfield Helm Management of Sandy, Utah purchased the mall in 2005, and in mid-2006 announced plans for a massive renovation of the center, which included the addition of a new Costco store at the south end of the site. Costco opened its doors in 2007.
On April 23, 2008, the mall broke ground on a renovation project that will increase its retail space by about 1/3 and add an outdoor plaza component consisting of restaurants and retail space to the mall. The current enclosed portion will be extensively renovated. Original plans for a residential component to the project were scrapped due to high construction costs. Construction is scheduled to be complete in 2010.
