Vain Glory Opera, released in 1998, is the third album by German power metal band Edguy. This album was the base for Edguy's later success and is probably their most well-known record. It was produced by Stratovarius' Timo Tolkki, who also played the additional lead guitar, and featured additional lead and backing vocals by Hansi Kürsch of Blind Guardian on "Out of Control" and the title track "Vain Glory Opera." Further choir vocals were supplied by Ralf Zdiarstek and Norman Meiritz. Also, Edguy's drummer at the time of recording was not Felix Bohnke, but session musician Frank Lindenthal.
The Ultravox song Hymn is covered on this album.
