Mōshi Mōshi is a Japanese greeting and interjection used primarily over the phone. Although usage is limited to Japan, the term has found it's way to the West as a name for shops, restaurants and a record company.

In modern parlance, it is used more like English "hello", only just on the telephone, or figuratively when trying to get through to someone.

The term is derived from the humble verb mōsu (申す, もうす) which means "to speak." It literally means "speaking speaking" and was originally used in the first Japanese telephone experiment, quite similar to the English "checking checking" when testing audio equipment.

The greeting has been notably featured in the Quentin Tarantino film Kill Bill where
