Talk:Vacuum forming
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Just thought I'd mention that I have to write a 750 word report for school on the history of the vacuum forming machine... If I find anything good I'll mention it here, since i notice this page doesn't have anything on it's history. And I think this page should have a link to the article on thermoforming, but I don't know how to do it. And I'll bung a pic of a vacuum former in the article once i get my camera working =)I am a lemon 01:54, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
i wanna know wat materials can be used as moulds which is simpler and cost effictive which can give better detail to the finished product !
This page is sorely lacking. Many more materials than plastics can be vacuum formed (for example, plywood and many fibre reinforced plastics), there's also no mention of vacuum bagging as a form of vacuum forming.
alrite keep ur hair on lol... thank you found this page very helpfull =) unlike other people!!!
THIS PAGE IS SHIT
A word to the wise. Many plastics absorb humidity just by sitting in storage. I have experienced this problem with lexan. When ever I would heat it enough to soften, the absorbed moistute would expand forming bubbles within the plastic. I plased my lexan sheet at a high temperature, but not enough to soften it, for a few days. This dorve out the water allowing it to be vacuum formed without generating bubbles. I was using 1.4" thick lexan so I gave it a long time but this is probably not optimal. Try some experimentation. The main point is if you get bubbles forming within the material try drying the plastic by heating.
I found the page that had the info on this drying subject. It's pretty handy.
THIS PAGE IS SHIT == rewrite from scratch? ==THE PAGE WAS SHIT
I'm considering rewriting this article from scratch. Would anyone object?
I'm the guy who wrote the linked article on how to build a simple, cheap, upgradeable vacuum former, over at Instructables. I also have a (noncommercial) web site, www.vacuumformerplans.com
I think I could do a pretty good job. THIS PAGE IS SHIT
