State Route 68 is a major thoroughfare throughout the Wasatch Front. It is commonly called Redwood Road, after the street it is routed along throughout Salt Lake County. The highway is also routed for a short distance along 500 South and 200 West in Bountiful and Camp Williams Road in Utah County. The route is a surface street for its entire length.

[edit] Route description

The route begins in a rural part of Utah County, at a junction with US-6. The route proceeds up the sparsely populated western edge of Utah Lake and follows the Jordan River into the Salt Lake Valley. Once in the Salt Lake Valley the route serves as a major through street connecting the western suburbs of Salt Lake City with the edge of the city. The highway is routed along the street Redwood Road, which is a north-south street at approximately 1700 West in the grid system of Salt Lake County.^[3] The highway turns right upon entering Bountiful where it is routed along 500 South. It connects and ends at the major arteries in that city, Interstate 15 and U.S. Route 89.

The highway was first comissioned in 1931, running from Lehi, Utah to North Temple Street in Salt Lake City. The highway was extended to Beck Street (routing of U.S. 89 in North Salt Lake in 1943). The highway was extended again, from Elberta to 500 West in Bountiful in 1953. One final extension in 2001 extended the highway in Bountiful along 200 West, which was previously a part of SR-106.^[2]
