State Route 256 is a short highway in central Utah that serves Redmond. There are no junctions with any state, federal, or interstate routes along SR-256 besides the termini.

From its southern terminus north of Salina, SR-257 heads north from US-89, heading toward Redmond. Afterwards, it returns to US-89 south of Axtell, forming a 180-degree loop around US-89.

At its formation in 1955, SR-256 went from SR-63 from its northern terminus west of Salina to its southern terminus of SR-11. In 1963 the legal definition was reversed so the southern terminus was legally before the northern terminus. In 1969 the route was removed and the current route was designated as SR-256.[2]
