From US-89, SR-186 heads towards the Utah State Capitol and eventually reaches University Boulevard. From there it does a ninety-degree loop around Salt Lake City and ends at the intersection of I-215.

[edit] History

SR-186 is the historical main route of U.S. Route 40 through Salt Lake City. There was also an alternate route that separated from SR-186 at Parley's Way and re-connected via SR-201.

Before 2008, SR-186 extended to the Salt Lake City International Airport via North Temple, but with the deletion of SR-184, SR-186 was rerouted over the abolished route. [2]
