USS Vendace (SS-430)

USS Vendace (SS-430), a Balao-class submarine, was the only ship of the United States Navy to be named for the vendace, a species of whitefish native to Lochmaben in Scotland. Her construction by the Cramp Shipbuilding Company at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was authorized but the contract for her construction was cancelled on 29 July 1944.
