US Coast Guard Base, Whites Island, Bermuda. During both World Wars, Bermuda served as a staging point for forming trans-Atlantic convoys. After the US entered the Great War, a US Coast Guard base for submarine chasers was operated on White's Island, in Hamilton Harbour.[citation needed]
