Only one WHEC was ever equipped with a Harpoon Missle system. Following the test launch, the idea was scrapped for the remainder of the class. I'm searching for some supporting documentation, but I know this from personal discussion with on the Fire-Control Technicians who was involved with the test launch. Scienda
http://www.uscg.mil/hq/g-cp/history/WHEC_Photo_Index.html; about 85% down the page includes the text: ". . . a test firing of a Harpoon anti-ship missile off the cutter Mellon in January of 1990. The Harpoons and all of her anti-submarine warfare equipment were removed "due to budget constraints" soon thereafter."
http://www.uscg.mil/pacarea/mellon/history6.html; third paragraph ends: "CGC MELLON retains the distinction of being the only Coast Guard cutter to launch a HARPOON anti-ship missile." Scienda 02:49, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
