[edit] Expand the "Purposes" section
I merged "URL aliasing" into the "Purposes" section of this article. I guess there are many more stubs that describe a practical application of URL redirection techniques in the Wikipedia. I suggest to merge their practical motivations into the "Purposes" section --- and any techniques that are not yet mentioned into the "Techniques" section.
[edit] Absolute URI for redirects
The "Using server side scripting for Redirection" section mentions that "According to the HTTP standard, the Location header must contain an absolute URI". I had always been under the impression that this was the case, but cannot find the specific reference in the HTTP spec (which is linked). Can someone find it and, if possible, modify the link to point to the appropriate section? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bobbykjack (talk • contribs) 09:37, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
