Up Periscope is a 1959 World War II drama starring James Garner as a Navy frogman fighting the Japanese. The supporting cast includes Edmond O'Brien, Andra Martin, and Alan Hale, Jr. The movie was written by Richard H. Landau and Robb White from White's novel, and directed by Gordon Douglas. One difference between the movie and the book is when the sub is attacked by a Japanese aircraft; in the movie a seaman is killed; in the book it is the ship's captain who dies.
